Becoming UNIQUE
The unicorn is a mythological animal, with antelope legs and goat hair. Strange even in fiction, elusive, reserved for dreamers, for those who search for it relentlessly, a rarity that is difficult to attain. Difficult, but not impossible.
This beast is also the symbol that brings together three explorers who faced the myth to prove that it is real: Daniel, Felipe and Camilo. Runners who literally went after the dream of hanging the strange creature on their necks after running 42,196 meters in the Boston Marathon and they succeeded.
For those in the know, this race is the graduation gala for professional and amateur athletes, the place where everyone wants to be. Therefore, it is not only within reach of an impulsive purchase with that credit card that sponsors farewell experiences. You get to Boston by running, running fast.
And to get there, these three athletes followed similar steps. They flirted with football in childhood, came to running almost by chance, and accumulated failures against the clock long before sealing the visa for this event that has already been held 126 times. Daniel, for example, completed his first marathon in 4 hours and 6 minutes and had to attend 10 previous events to achieve the mark that led him to this race for the first time in 2016. In 2022 he stopped the clock at 2 hours and 39.
Boston is the world championship for runners, for those who persist, for discipline and for those who pay for their crossing of the finish line with beer. Felipe, Barbas; Camilo, Pinky; and Daniel, the DRunners coach, arrived in faraway lands with the gadgets of a feat like this. You arrive at the meeting with the unicorn with your beard painted on, with the names of those who are in heaven on your chest or with motivations running through your veins. That's how they were.
They collected the medal, put an end to the myth, inspired new stories and engraved in memory that they went and won, that they were among the best Colombians of 2022, they climbed the “heartbreaker”, they overcame the cold, the pain, the doubts, the distance from home, the ghosts and the unbelievers.
Daniel, Camilo and Felipe are witnesses that the unicorn, that rare creature that can be reached by running, exists.
