The must-haves of quarantine

For the days when we have to take care of ourselves at home, it is important to be prepared. Many people choose which films they will watch, the recipe they will make in the kitchen or the pages of the book they will read. If you are here, it is because you are clear that the bedroom, the living room or the patio will be your gym, your track or the place from which you will add kilometers on the bike simulator.

We want to share with you some recommendations so that no lockdown stops your physical activity, you train with high intensity and with the greatest comfort.

 

  1. Make your mind your best ally

The first thing you need to do to train at home is to connect with your motivations. You still have to reach the finish line of that race you dream of, the IronMan in Cartagena is still waiting for you or those extra calories are confined to you. Use your imagination to turn a few square meters into the stage where you are going to give it your all and to let creativity allow you to see in some elements of your home the best instruments of your personalized gym. For example, a couple of bottles of water can become dumbbells, you can transform old tires from your bike into elastic bands with which you can work on your strength and resistance.

 

  1. Eat well

Exercising during quarantine does not necessarily mean that it will be a lower intensity activity or a lower energy expenditure. It is common that we forget to plan our diet when we do roller or functional training sessions under the false idea that it is not so necessary because we are not in a gym or on the street. A session, for example, can represent a caloric expenditure that ranges between 500 and 1000 kilocalories per 45 minutes.

Use your energy bars, gels, snacks, fruits or proteins that you normally take with your training so that you are always ready to give it your all.

 

  1. Take care of your comfort

Training indoors can involve changes in temperature that you are not used to, increased sweating, and the use of surfaces that are not suitable for sports. That is why it is a good idea to prepare some items and clothing that will allow you to train with all the intensity and comfort:

  • If you cycle on a roller or simulator, wear appropriate T-shirts. There are breathable garments designed for this type of situation.
  • Protect your bike with a sweat guard. Quarantine has popularized the use of covers that protect the frame from salt and water.
  • Use microfiber towels. This material will allow you to dry yourself more easily in situations where high-intensity exercises require it.

Train with your friends through the screen, take a virtual class, repeat a routine that you know by heart and make the most of your time at home to continue with your clear goals.
