We look forward to Everesting 2021 (the preview)
If you have blood running through your veins and made the mistake of signing up for Everesting 2021, you will know what it is like to have your heart rate racing nervously while sitting at home, staring at your cell phone screen and imagining that you are a few days, or a few hours, away from climbing Alto de las Palmas between 3 and 13 times.
And if you are going to take part in this challenge for the first time, or you are going to come on September 11 as a spectator, we want you to get an idea of what awaits the cyclists who are going to face the climbs of one of the most famous roads in Antioquia in search of completing the difference in altitude of Mount Everest (8,848 meters above sea level).
Last year, 60 people participated, 60 pairs of legs that embarked on this adventure. 22 did the full distance and were part of the Sherpa Category, 18 were Alpinists and made six ascents and 20 people reached three summits as a team in the Roped Division. In the 2021 version, the stakes were raised, the madness increased, the numbers will increase, Everest became too small for us and the Himalaya category will enter. The latter will be the first in the history of the event to make 13 ascents and accumulate 10 thousand meters of elevation gain.
The following figures were given for the complete Everesting: the first man to complete it took 13 hours and 52 minutes, including rest and descent times. The last man to complete the feat took 19 hours and 41 minutes.
On the women's side, the first to complete the positive gradient stopped the clock at 18 hours and 37 minutes. The woman who completed the task finished in 19 hours and 41 minutes.
It was a sunny day, with a monumental downpour to give it epic overtones and with many, many twists and turns that served as a pen to write a story that will continue to be written this year when, once again, a good number of cyclists with their bikes adjusted and their head screws broken, meet to be closer to heaven on two wheels.
